Standpoint

Standpoint aims to explore and develop creative strategies to improve how young adults (aged 18-23) interact and engage widely with important daily news stories. Younger audiences today have unparalleled access to news through various digital channels. However, the challenge lies in capturing and maintaining their interest in news amidst the overwhelming volume of information. Exposing young adults to a variety of sources allows them to form opinions which they can stand accountable for in debates. Research indicates that traditional news apps and pages can be perceived as overwhelming, often leading to disengagement (Eddy, 2022). This disengagement results in a lack of awareness and understanding of significant global issues among young adults.

Consequently, Standpoint is an Instagram platform which aims to provide an easy user interface that helps young people engage with a wide range of news sources and perspectives in an accessible and meaningful way. Its design is based on feedback from young people about their news consumption habits and leverages social media and other digital platforms to create a more connected and informed youth audience.
